Wacky Wahoo’s Aruba: Menu, Prices & Honest Review

Wacky Wahoo’s is a small, chef-owned seafood restaurant on Route 3 in Noord, a few minutes inland from the Palm Beach high-rises — and arguably the hardest table to get on the island. The owner, Harald Rudel, is a fisherman, and the catch-of-the-day board depends on what came off the boat: wahoo, barracuda, grouper, red snapper, mahi-mahi. It takes no reservations — Aruba’s tourism board lists it as strictly first come, first served — so the line starts forming before the doors open at 5:30pm. Every price below was read from diners’ photographs of the menu book on the restaurant’s Google listing, taken between October 2025 and March 2026 — the soups-and-starters page appears in both windows with identical prices, so the card has been stable for over a year. Google’s crowd estimate is AWG 40–100 per person (about $22–56, from 97 reports). One thing to know before you scroll: this is a fish house. There are no burgers, wings or nachos on this card.

The heart of the menu. Whatever the boat brought in — wahoo, barracuda, grouper, red snapper, mahi-mahi — comes four ways: pan-fried “the Aruban way” $32.50, grilled in olive oil with sauteed tomatoes and olives $32.50, blackened with a Louisiana cajun dry rub $32.50, or gratinated under Dutch gouda with spinach-mushroom cream $34.50. Pasta, dessert and drinks

Wacky’s fettuccine alfredo is $18 as a vegetarian plate with plantain and Aruban corn bread, $30.75 with cajun roast chicken, $32.75 with the catch of the day, $38.50 with skewered tiger prawns, or $48 as the luxury shrimp-and-truffle version. Desserts are all $14: quesillo (coconut flan with rum-marinated pineapple), warm chocolate brownie, the classic Aruban cashew cake, a home-baked cheesecake of the day and a blueberry creme brulee. Cocktails run $11 (red sangria) to $18 (espresso martini, Aperol spritz, negroni); wine by the glass is $12–14.50, and there is Moet at $115.50 a bottle if the catch deserves it.

What It Is Actually Like

One small, brightly painted room with a handful of outdoor tables, table service and very big plates. Reviewers’ recurring notes: the room gets loud when the eight-person tables fill, portions defeat most people, and nobody feels rushed even with a line outside. That line is real — a reviewer two weeks before this check arrived 15 minutes before opening, counted roughly 30 people ahead and took the last table, and 30–45 minute waits come up in review after review. Treat 5:00pm as your reservation, and remember it is closed on Sundays.

Our Verdict

Order off the catch-of-the-day board. At $32.50 pan-fried, grilled or blackened, the day-boat fish is the best-value plate in the room, and it is what the place exists for — barracuda is the single most-mentioned dish across its Google reviews (173 mentions, ahead of grouper at 103 and red snapper at 46), which tells you how often it actually comes off the boat. Start with the Aruba fish soup at $14.75 or the ceviche at $20.75, the two starters reviewers return to most, and leave room for the $14 cashew cake. Count on roughly $60 a head for three courses before drinks — the top of Google’s own AWG 40–100 estimate, yet repeat visitors keep calling it better value than the hyped hotel-strip tables. The real price is time: there are no reservations, so arrive by 5pm, put your name in the moment the doors open at 5:30, and do not try on a Sunday, because it is closed.
