Getting Oriented at the Aruba Cruise Port

The port sits in the heart of Oranjestad. You walk off the ship into the Renaissance Marina area, surrounded by shops, restaurants and a bus stop. The Renaissance resort beside the marina is also the jump-off for Flamingo Beach day passes — walkable from the ship, but passes are released online the Saturday before and sell out. Palm Beach (the main tourist strip) is about ten minutes by taxi at the official flat rate of $33 per car; Eagle Beach is closer, roughly ten to fifteen minutes and $28 — full fare table below, and a dedicated port-to-Eagle-Beach guide with the bus option. The Natural Pool — the island’s most dramatic inland destination — is 45–60 minutes away and best done on a guided jeep tour.

Getting out of the port: exact fares and times — checked September 2026

Ships in Aruba dock — there is no tendering at Oranjestad. The port has five cruise berths and you walk straight off the ship into the capital: from the terminal gate the walk along L.G. Smith Boulevard to Royal Plaza Mall, where the shopping streets start, is about 400 metres — five flat minutes on foot. You do not need a shuttle or a taxi to see downtown.

Aruban taxis have no meters. Fares are flat rates set by the Government of Aruba, and every figure below comes from the official fare calculator at taxi.aw (rates effective 20 May 2026, checked September 2026). The fare is per car for up to four people, so a group of four splits it four ways.

• A fifth, sixth or seventh passenger adds $3 each; the minimum fare is $10.
• Add a flat $5 to any trip on Sundays, on official holidays, from 24 December to 1 January, and between 11pm and 7am.

The $2.60 bus

The Arubus terminal is a short walk from the port on L.G. Smith Boulevard, and the main coastal routes run past the Eagle Beach and Palm Beach hotel strips. A single ride is $2.60, a round trip $5 and a day pass $15 (arubus.com, September 2026) — by far the cheapest way to a beach day, just allow extra time for the timetable on the way back.

Best Things to Do From Aruba Cruise Port

1. Catamaran Snorkel Cruise ⭐ Best Option ($75–95/person)

The single best use of a port day in Aruba. A 3-hour catamaran tour departs from near the port, snorkels the Antilla shipwreck or Arashi reef (sea turtles virtually guaranteed), open bar throughout, and returns with time to spare before departure. Book from home before you sail — the pier vendors quote walk-up prices for the same boats, and the popular departures sell out.

2. Jeep / UTV Tour to Natural Pool ($100–140/person)

A 4–5 hour off-road adventure through Arikok National Park to the volcanic swimming hole. Operators guarantee return before ship departure. The most adventurous use of a port day.

3. Eagle Beach by Taxi ($28 each way)

For a simple beach day, Eagle Beach is 15 minutes away — consistently ranked among the world’s best. You can book our own umbrella and two chairs at Eagle Beach ahead of time (yours 10am–4pm), swim, relax, and return 90 minutes before departure. The cheapest option and still excellent.

4. Oranjestad Walking Tour (Free)

Fort Zoutman (Aruba’s oldest building), colourful Dutch colonial architecture, Wilhelmina Park waterfront and local food markets — all within 10 minutes walk of the port. Worth doing for 45 minutes even if you’re doing a tour.
