Aruba is one of the worlds top windsurfing destinations. The northeast trade winds blow 15-25 knots almost every day of the year at Hadicurari Beach (Fisherman’s Huts), flat water inside the reef suits beginners and freestylers, and choppy open water outside suits wave sailing. Aruba hosts the Hi-Winds festival, the largest Caribbean windsurfing event.

Why Aruba is a World-Class Windsurfing Destination
The combination of consistent trade winds, warm water, and a split between flat water inside the reef and choppier ocean outside is what makes Hadicurari Beach genuinely exceptional for windsurfing. Most world-class windsurfing destinations are good for either flat water or waves — Hadicurari offers both within 200 metres of the same beach.
The trade winds blow from the northeast at 15–28 knots almost every day of the year. This consistency is unusual even by Caribbean standards. Most watersports destinations have days where the wind drops out entirely — in Aruba this is genuinely rare. You can plan a windsurfing holiday to Aruba with high confidence that the conditions will deliver.
Learning to Windsurf in Aruba
Hadicurari’s shallow, sandy conditions are ideal for beginners. The water inside the reef is flat, the bottom is sand (safe to stand on when you fall), and the offshore reef prevents the wind from creating dangerous conditions close to the beach. Most healthy adults can get basic water-starting within 2–3 days of lessons. The Hi-Winds festival in May is actually an excellent time to learn — you can watch the world’s best riders while your instructor teaches you the basics.
