Next to Aruba’s famous Old Mill on L.G. Smith Boulevard, you’ll find one of the island’s most extraordinary dining experiences. The Journey is a chef’s table concept created by Michelin star-trained Chef Patrick van der Donk — previously of Amuse Sunset restaurant — who has created an intimate, personal dining experience unlike anything else on the island.
This is not a restaurant you walk into. It’s a reservation-only experience for a small number of guests each evening, built around a tasting menu that Chef Patrick designs around the best ingredients available that day. Credit card information is required to hold reservations, and confirmation is by phone — this is deliberate, setting the tone for the level of commitment and quality you’re about to experience.

The Chef’s Table Experience

Chef Patrick trained at Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe before bringing those techniques to Aruba. The tasting menu changes based on what’s available — Caribbean fish caught that morning, locally grown herbs and vegetables, imported European specialties when they add something the island can’t provide.
The cooking style combines French technique with Caribbean ingredients and Dutch influences — a combination that only makes sense in Aruba, where all three cultures have shaped the island’s history. Each course is a considered statement. The wine pairing, if you opt for it, is chosen personally by the chef.
The Setting: The Old Mill

The restaurant sits adjacent to Aruba’s famous De Olde Molen (The Old Mill), a 200-year-old Dutch windmill that was dismantled and shipped from Holland to Aruba in 1960. The historic setting gives The Journey a character that newer restaurants can’t manufacture — you’re dining in the shadow of a genuine piece of Dutch-Aruban history.
