Best Free Spots to See Turtles in Aruba

Arashi Beach (Best)

Aruba’s top free snorkelling beach at the northern tip of the island. Turtles are frequently spotted feeding on the sea grass beds just off the shore in 2–4 metres of water. Swim out 30–50 metres from the beach and scan the bottom. Early morning (7–9am) gives the best chance of calm water and good visibility. Free parking, no facilities.

Malmok Beach

The rocky shoreline just south of Arashi is excellent for turtle sightings — and also sits above the famous Antilla shipwreck, which lies in 18–20 metres and attracts marine life. Turtles often rest on the sand near the wreck in shallower areas reachable by snorkel.

Boca Catalina

A calm cove 10 minutes north of Palm Beach. Turtles are spotted here regularly alongside reef fish and coral. Calm, clear water makes it easy for beginner snorkellers. Small parking area, no facilities.

Tips for Snorkelling with Turtles

  • Don’t chase or touch turtles — stay still and let them swim to you. Chasing them causes stress and they dive deep
  • Morning is best — calmer water, better visibility, fewer other snorkellers
  • Bring a waterproof camera — GoPro or waterproof phone case for the best shots
  • Reef-safe sunscreen only — standard sunscreen damages coral and is legally restricted in Aruba
