Aruba is 20 miles long and 6 miles wide — 70 square miles total. Small enough to explore fully in a week. Big enough to always find something new.
Aruba measures approximately 20 miles (32km) long and 6 miles (10km) wide — a total area of about 70 square miles (180 square kilometres). To put this in context: you can drive from the southern tip to the northern tip in about 40 minutes, and from the west coast to the east coast in under 15 minutes. Nothing is far from anything else.
For travellers, this is straightforwardly good news. You can base yourself anywhere on the west coast and reach any beach, tour departure point, restaurant, or attraction within 30 minutes. There are no “remote” parts of the island that require special planning to reach.
Because Aruba is so compact, a single full-day jeep safari can cover the island’s most extraordinary natural features — the Natural Pool in the northeast, Baby Beach in the southeast, the California Lighthouse in the northwest, and Bushiribana ruins on the north coast — all in one day with a local guide and lunch included.
Self-driving: you can cover the main highlights of the north coast and natural park in a half-day with any rental car (2WD for paved sections, 4×4 for the Natural Pool track).
