Getting Around Aruba: Transport Guide

Aruba is a small island — about 20 miles long and 6 miles wide — so getting around is straightforward. You don’t need a car to enjoy the island, but having one opens up the remote beaches, national park, and countryside that most tourists never see. Here’s everything you need to know about transport in Aruba.

Renting a Car

A rental car is the best way to explore Aruba independently. The island has good paved roads between major tourist areas, and a regular 2WD car is sufficient for Palm Beach, Eagle Beach, Oranjestad, and most beaches. For the Natural Pool, Arikok National Park interior, and the north coast, a 4×4 is essential.

Car rental costs approximately $50–$90 per day for a standard vehicle. A valid driving licence from your home country is accepted. Drive on the right side of the road.

Taxis

Taxis are metered and reliable throughout Aruba. Standard fares: Airport to Palm Beach ~$25, Airport to Eagle Beach ~$20, Palm Beach to Oranjestad ~$12. Taxis do not need to be pre-booked — they’re available at all hotels, resorts, and at the airport. Ride-hailing apps like Uber are not available in Aruba.

Public Bus (Arubus)

Aruba’s public bus network is affordable (approximately $2.50 per ride) and covers the main tourist corridors. Route 2 runs between Oranjestad and Palm Beach via Eagle Beach frequently throughout the day. Schedules are available at the Oranjestad bus terminal and at most hotel concierge desks.

Airport Transfers

The easiest and most stress-free way to get from the airport to your hotel is to pre-book a private airport transfer through Viator. Fixed pricing, meet-and-greet service, and no waiting for a taxi.

Scooters, ATVs & Bicycles

Scooters — rentals available on Palm Beach. Fun for exploring the west coast and Oranjestad. A driving licence is required.

ATVs and UTVs — the most exciting way to explore the island’s rough terrain. Guided ATV tours cover the north coast, national park, and Natural Pool. See Aruba ATV tours →

Bicycles — available to rent at most hotels. The flat west coast road is very cycle-friendly. Electric bikes are increasingly available.
