Caribbean Comparison
Both are Dutch Caribbean islands. Very different experiences. Here is the honest comparison.
Choose Aruba for guaranteed sunshine year-round, minimal hurricane risk, Eagle Beach (world-ranked), and extraordinary jeep safaris and catamaran snorkel tours.
Choose St Maarten/St Martin for the unique dual-nationality island, world-class French cuisine on the French side, a livelier party atmosphere, and more villa rental variety.
Aruba wins on consistency. Eagle Beach is world-ranked. All west coast beaches are calm and swimmable. St Maarten has excellent beaches (Orient Beach, Maho Beach) but more variation in quality.
Aruba wins decisively. Aruba sits outside the hurricane belt with 17 inches of rain per year. St Maarten suffered catastrophic damage from Hurricane Irma in 2017 and sits in the main hurricane track.
St Maarten wins. The French side has some of the best French cuisine in the Caribbean and exceptional local Creole cooking. Aruba has excellent restaurants but cannot match St Martin for food variety.
Aruba wins. The Natural Pool jeep safari, catamaran wreck snorkel, and ATV tours are world-class experiences with a developed, reliable tour infrastructure.
St Maarten wins on variety. More active bar and club scene around Maho Beach and Simpson Bay. Aruba has casinos, sunset cruises and beach bars but a more relaxed vibe.
