🐢 Best Snorkelling Beach · Aruba
The best shore snorkelling in Aruba. The reef starts 20 metres from the sand. Sea turtles are common. Locals call it their beach — for good reason.
Arashi Beach sits on the northwest tip of Aruba, just south of the California Lighthouse. It’s not the most dramatic beach on the island — it’s narrow, unshaded, and has no facilities. But for snorkelling directly off the beach without a boat, it’s the best Aruba has to offer.
The reef starts immediately as you wade in — about 20 metres from the sand. Healthy coral formations, exceptional water clarity (30+ metres visibility on good days), and a resident population of sea turtles that are genuinely accustomed to snorkellers.
Sea turtles are the headline. Green sea turtles frequent the Arashi reef year-round, most commonly in the early morning. They’re accustomed to human presence and will often swim alongside you if you move slowly and don’t chase them.
Fish: Parrotfish, French angelfish, blue tang, sergeant majors, barracuda (harmless, curious), and occasional rays. The reef structure creates pockets and overhangs where moray eels shelter.
Coral: Brain coral, star coral, staghorn coral. The reef at Arashi is healthier than most beaches on the west coast — a direct result of fewer tourists and less boat traffic.
Arashi has become popular. Arrive before 9am and you’ll have the reef largely to yourself with excellent morning visibility. By 10:30am, tour groups start arriving and the beach gets crowded for its small size.
There are no rentals at Arashi. Bring your own mask and fins, or rent in Palm Beach before you drive up (about 20 minutes). Water shoes are helpful for the rocky entry.
Arashi is about 20 minutes north of Palm Beach. Drive north along the coastal road past the California Lighthouse, then look for the turn-off. Limited parking — arrive early.
Guided tours visit Arashi, Malmok and the Antilla shipwreck on the same trip. Free cancellation via Viator.
