The Antilla shipwreck. The Pedernales wreck. Vibrant coral reefs. Visibility regularly over 30 metres. Aruba is a world-class scuba diving destination.
Aruba’s scuba diving scene is led by two extraordinary wreck dives — the Antilla (one of the best wreck dives in the Caribbean) and the Pedernales oil tanker — plus a number of good reef sites along the northwest coast. The water clarity is consistently excellent and the year-round warm temperatures (80°F / 27°C) mean no wetsuit is needed for most dives.
Aruba’s signature dive site. A 400-foot German WWII freighter resting in 18 to 27 metres (60 to 90 feet) of water off the northwest coast, near Malmok. The wreck is so large it requires 2 to 3 dives to explore fully. Every surface is colonised by coral and sponges. Marine life: barracuda schools, green sea turtles, moray eels, eagle rays. PADI Open Water certification is sufficient for the upper wreck sections.
Pedernales Wreck — an American oil tanker torpedoed in 1942 now resting in 8 metres of water near Oranjestad. Shallow, accessible, and covered in coral. Good for beginners and night dives.
Aruba Reef — a series of reef formations along the northwest coast with healthy hard and soft coral, good fish diversity, and consistent visibility.
PADI courses: Multiple Palm Beach dive operators offer PADI Open Water, Advanced, and Rescue courses. The warm, calm conditions make Aruba an excellent learning environment.
Antilla dive trips depart daily from Palm Beach marina. Free cancellation via Viator.
